It's here, It's here!!!!!! Finally, for those of you who are like me, and October seemed like decades ago, You remember those amazing Rays, their incredible run through t he playoffs, until they ran into the Fightin' Phils. What a great year, what a finish now it starts all over a new. Like always i will make my yearly trips to both Arizona, and Florida for my first taste of baseball. right now I'm going to ignore all the steroid talk of Clemens, A-Rod, and even Bonds. I'm going to sit back and take in all the things that made me fall in love with this great sport, Great weather beautiful fields, Hot dogs, and of course a cold frosty beverage. Sit back watch the kid that has become the old man (Griffey Jr.) cement his legacy as one of the few players of this era to do it performance enhancing drug free. It's time to watch legends ride into the sunset (Glavine, Griffey, Smoltz, etc.) and the younger players prove themselves to be viable greats, and deserving of their fame. It's that time of year folks, baseball season is here!!!!

Jericho Scott (9 year old banned from pitching)
Well welcome to my world and my opinions on our world today. I don't know how many of you have heard this story of young Jericho Scott. He's a young African American boy the age of nine, and like many of our youth he enjoys a sport, my personal favorite sport, baseball. This kid is very good at what he does for his age, he excels at pitching this kid throws a fastball at the speed of 40 MPH which is pretty good for his age, not astonishing, but good. However he throws harder than anyone in the league in which he competes, Sounds great being good at what we actually love to do, don't we all wish that for those we associate with, as well as ourselves.
The problem today is that the other teams in this league have decided that since this kid is so good, he shouldn't be allowed to pitch, he's so dominate in the league that he participates in that the league president ordered his coach not toa llow him to pitch any longer. When his coach decided to let this kid pitch, his team automatically forfeited the game, and his team was eventually disbanned. What in the world are we coming to? Are we really becoming this soft as parents and adults. When will we stop babying these kids, for all of us that remember playing little league baseball there was always some kid that threw extremely hard, and dominated the entire league. In my humble opinion it's a right of passage, being able to go in there against someone you feel you really have no shot against, and let it all hang out. Give it your best shot. These people that are in charge of this league are basically telling the coach that he's cheating because he has a dominate pitcher, this isn't a question of if this kid is too old or not, it's that he's too good period.
My biggest issue with this whole situation is that this is what we are telling our kids. "Be Mediocre" I'm sick of that sentiment, especially when we are dealing with our minority children. I'm not at all saying that this kid is the next Pedro Martinez, but let's at least give him the chance, this is what we'd rather see our youth doing isn't it? There are so many things that are less productive that this kid could be doing, such as playing video games all day, eating junk food, or even worse breaking the law. Thsi has got to stop, our world/workforce is built around competetion, some of those people that we pass on the median everyday holding up signs, pan-handling, and begging everyday, are there because they quit on life. They wouldn't keep fighting that uphill battle, is this really the message that we want to start sending to our kids? If so Get Real, grow up, and accept the fact than in life someone will be better than all of us at something. Our job is to make sure we push our children to greatness, and not mediocrity.

My Blogs
I want to first of all welcome everyone to my blog, this is my little corner of the world to give my opinion on the state of our world. I will be dealing with subjects from sports (of which is my favorite, and most knowledgable) to politics, and local issues that are here in the Memphis Tennessee area. If there are ever any issues where you would like to know my opinion (why would you) just ask and I will post it here. The reason I have personally started this blog is to bring a fresh pospective on things, from a person who is striving to be a professioanl journalist, but I;m not concerned about being politically correct. My blog will not contain crude, language or topics, most issues will be of the nature that many of us can relate to. These are things that we all must deal with, I appreciate your feedback, and support of my dreams and career path.
Thank You,
Matthew E. Cody
